Nearly one quarter of all shark and ray species are threatened with extinction, and more than 100 million sharks are killed annually.
Inadequate management, enforcement, and regulatory mechanisms, as well as the demand for their meat, fins, leather, liver, and gills, are pushing many of these species to the brink of extinction.
Current philanthropic efforts do not match the urgency of this crisis. The SCF is working at the local, national and international levels to restore and protect vulnerable shark and ray populations.
