This grant to Fauna & Flora International will be used to support efforts by the Government of Myanmar to improve the conservation and management of sharks and rays. By investing in science, advocacy, and by supporting a national planning process for action on sharks and rays, this project will build the capabilities of government and civil society partners to:

  1. Lead and sustain conservation measures,
  2. Deter and reduce illegal landings of sharks and mobulid rays,
  3. Increase adoption of measures to reduce shark by-catch, and
  4. Increase protection of critical habitats used by sharks and rays in the Myeik archipelago.

This project looks to review and reform legislation on sharks and rays and strengthen its implementation by fostering new collaborations within Myanmar and neighboring Thailand.
