The Madagascar Whale Shark Project is a collaborative research and conservation project focusing on whale sharks in Madagascar. Operating since 2015, the project has identified more than 400 juvenile individuals in North-West Madagascar. The project’s overall objective is to include critical habitats and conservation needs for endangered whale sharks within the existing management plans for two existing local MPAs. The project will also contribute to the Wildlife Conservation Society’s efforts to develop and implementation a National Plan of Action for Sharks and Rays, as well as contribute new data to the development of a CITES non-detriment finding for whale sharks.
