Reef sharks and rays are severely depleted in Kenya, largely due to overfishing. The location of critical habitats for sharks, such as nursery and pupping grounds, is currently unknown. Juvenile and adult blacktip reef sharks and several species of guitarfish, occur in the Watamu Marine Park and Reserve. The project will use acoustic telemetry to map their habitat use and identify nursery and pupping grounds to support conservation actions to protect these species in the Park and Reserve.
