Protecting Sharks and Rays in Australia - Phase 2

Grantee Australian Marine Conservation Society
Location Australia
Grant Amount 600,000
Duration 3 years
Type of Grant Core Grant

With some of the last healthy tropical ecosystems on Earth, Australia’s oceans are home to endemic sharks, skates, and rays, and populations of sawfish that are vital to the global survival of these species. Endemic species are unmanaged and unprotected across eastern Australia, and commercial fishing and shark control programs are driving their decline. The Australian Marine Conservation Society and Humane Society International are working to reduce these threats.
