Benin Environment and Education Society’s (BEES) project is designed to protect rays/sharks in Benin's ecologically vital Donaten MPA. Insufficient data threatens these species, so the project uses an integrated, community-focused approach. Fishermen/fishmongers are trained to collect data via the Siren tool and iNaturalist tool. BEES also conducts awareness campaigns, educating communities/schools on marine conservation. Strengthening the MPA management committee and partnering with maritime police improves governance and law enforcement against threats. The vision is thriving rays/sharks in a healthy, resilient marine ecosystem for future generations.
