Mauritius has international obligations to protect manta and devil rays (mobulids), yet these highly threatened species are not explicitly included within national fisheries legislation. This project will work with Mauritian government agencies and the Odysseo Foundation to strengthen mobulid conservation through improved monitoring, species identification, enforcement capacity, and development of a National Mobulid Action Plan. The project will support integration of mobulids into Fisheries Management Plans and national reporting systems, helping translate international conservation commitments into practical national action. It will also generate new ecological evidence from the Chagos Archipelago, including habitat information for Critically Endangered devil rays, to support future conservation planning should management responsibility for CAMPA transition to Mauritius.
